This year, our shop is participating as a collection point for the CLICK for Babies Campaign. This North American public awareness campaign focuses on raising awareness about normal infant crying, and the period of PURPLE crying. When new mothers come home from the hospital with baby, they are also sent home with a lot of information - as well as (hopefully - we need to knit/crochet more!) a purple cap for baby as a reminder regarding PURPLE crying. I'm sure that many of you have heard of this initiative, or perhaps have seen posters in local medical facilities looking for donations of purple newborn caps.
If you'd like to donate your time to creating some baby caps, here is what the organizers (Prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome BC) are asking for:
1. Knit or Crochet soft newborn caps that are at least 50% purple in colour in new, soft and washable yarn. Here are some patterns that others have been using.
2. Spread the word about this campaign, the Period of PURPLE Crying, and Shaken Baby Syndrome.
3. Donate your time, yarn or money to help improve the overall care of infants and decrease the rate of Shaken Baby Syndrome in BC.
Drop off your knit and crocheted caps with us here at the shop by September 30th.
